Thatcher Bay Vineyard is located on the eastern side of Livermore Valley at a higher elevation, where warm days are tempered by cooling afternoon winds. The vineyard's Merlot benefits from this moderately warm climate, with hot daytime temperatures followed by cool evenings and significantly cooler nights that help preserve acidity and develop complexity. The vines are trained using an overhead quadrilateral trellis system, which provides ample shading for the fruit and promotes balanced ripening throughout the growing season.
